Privacy policy,
in plain words.
Remote Files Browser was made for one reason: your files and your server addresses should stay yours. This policy explains what the extension stores, which requests it makes, and what it never does.
1. At a glance
| What | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| The folder addresses you open, and the names you give them (your connections) | Stay in your browser, on your device, in Chrome's extension storage. Up to 12 are kept. |
| Your list or grid choice, your theme and your settings | Stay in your browser, on your device. |
| The folder lists, pictures and files you ask for | Come straight from the website you typed to your browser. Rocuo never sees them. |
| Files and ZIP files you download | Saved on your computer, in the folder you choose or by Chrome's download manager. A ZIP is built inside your browser and is never uploaded. |
| Web pages you look at while the blue bar is on | Checked on your computer only, by reading the page title and the link texts. Nothing is sent. |
| Account, analytics, ads, tracking | None. |
2. Who is responsible
Remote Files Browser is designed and developed by Rocuo ("we"). Contact us at info@rocuo.com. For the rocuo.com website itself, see the website privacy policy.
3. What is stored on your device
Everything the extension keeps stays in your browser. It uses two places:
- Chrome extension storage (local): your saved connections (the address, and the name you gave it, up to 12), the folder you opened last, your list or grid choice, and your settings (your theme, whether hidden files show, and where the blue bar appears).
- localStorage of the extension's own page: one small marker that remembers your theme, so the right colours show before anything loads.
The extension keeps no copy of the folder lists or files you open. They are shown on the screen, or saved to your computer when you press download. Nothing in this list is sent anywhere.
You are in control. Remove a connection and it is gone. Choose Remove all saved connections in Settings and they are all gone. Removing the extension deletes everything we could ever have stored. We keep no copy.
4. Permissions
Remote Files Browser asks Chrome for three permissions, and uses each only for the reason below:
- downloads: to save the single files and the ZIP files you choose.
- storage: to remember your saved connections, your view and your settings.
- scripting: to add the optional blue bar to web pages that are folder lists, only on the websites you chose in Settings. The script is part of the extension. It reads only the page title and the link texts, on your computer, to see if the page is a folder list, and it sends nothing anywhere.
Website access is optional and is asked for one website at a time. Chrome asks you to allow a website after you type its address and press Open. It is used only to read the file list of that website and to download the files you select. If you choose the setting On every website for the blue bar, Chrome asks for access to all websites, and you can change your mind in Settings.
5. Requests to websites
The extension uses no analytics, tracking or advertising service. It talks only to the website you typed, and to rocuo.com when you click a link to it. These requests carry what a normal web request carries: your IP address, the address of the thing requested and, as with any page you open, the cookies Chrome already holds for that website. The extension adds nothing of its own and sends none of your saved connections to anyone.
| When | Who is contacted | What for |
|---|---|---|
| You press Open on an address, or open a folder | The website you typed | To read its list of files. The request goes straight from your browser to that website. |
| A folder with pictures is shown in grid view | The same website | To show a small preview of each picture file. Nothing is requested from anyone else. |
| You download | The same website | To read the files you chose, and save them on your computer. |
| You press Visit rocuo.com in Settings | rocuo.com | Normal browsing. A new tab opens, only when you click. |
Pages and scripts that a website sends are read only as text. They are never shown or run inside the extension, and no code is downloaded: the extension runs only the code inside its package.
6. Downloads
Files you choose are read from the website and written to your computer. A single file is saved by Chrome's download manager. A folder is saved into a place you pick in Chrome's folder window, and the extension writes only inside the folder you picked. You can also save a folder as one ZIP file. A ZIP is built inside your browser and is never uploaded.
7. The blue bar
The blue bar says Open this path in Remote Files at the top of a web page that is a folder list. By default it can appear only on the websites in your saved connections. You can choose every website, or never, in Settings. To decide if a page is a folder list, the extension reads the page title and the link texts, on your computer. It stores nothing from the page and sends nothing anywhere. The address of the page is handed to the extension on your computer only when you press Open.
8. What we do not do
- We do not collect, store or receive your server addresses, your files or what you download.
- We do not read the websites you visit, your open tabs or your browsing history.
- We do not use analytics, crash reports, ads or tracking.
- We do not sell personal information or share it with anyone.
- We do not load or run code from the internet.
9. Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
The use of user data by Remote Files Browser follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties. We do not use or transfer it for personalized ads, or for credit or lending decisions. We do not use it for any purpose other than the single purpose of the extension: to browse a web file listing and download its files and folders. No person at Rocuo can read your data, because it never reaches us.
10. Your choices and rights
Because everything stays on your device, you control it directly. For information we hold because you wrote to us (for example your email), you can ask us to show it, correct it or delete it by emailing info@rocuo.com. You may have more rights under the law where you live.
11. Children
Remote Files Browser is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will appear here with a new date. If a change ever affects how your data is handled, we will say so plainly on this page and in the release notes of that version.
