Terms of use,
in plain words.

1. What Cute Split is

Cute Split is a tool for writing down shared expenses and working out who owes whom. It does not hold, move or lend money, and it is not financial, tax or legal advice. When two people “settle up”, they pay each other outside the app (for example by UPI or cash); the app only keeps a note. It can open your own UPI app for you, but you enter, check and make the payment there yourself.

2. Your account

• You must be 18 or older and use a mobile number that is yours.
• You are responsible for what happens under your account, and for keeping your phone safe.
• You can sign a phone out, and delete your account, at any time (see the Privacy Policy).

3. Using it properly

You agree not to:

• add people you do not know, or add people to groups to bother them (they can leave, block and report);
• use the app to harass, threaten or cheat anybody, or for anything illegal;
• put in other people’s numbers or details to spam them, or collect numbers in bulk;
• try to see other people’s data, break the limits of the service, or overload it, including with automated tools;
• copy the app or take it apart, except where the law allows.

We may limit or close accounts that do this, and remove content that is reported and found to break these Terms. You can report a group, a person or an expense in the app.

4. What you share with other people

• Somebody you add by number gets an invitation. They see nothing of yours until they accept it; after that they see what you share with them.
• What you put in a group is visible to everybody in that group, including people added later, who see the group’s history.
• An expense you split with a friend, or share with them, is visible to them.
• If you leave a group or delete your account, what you shared stays for the others, with your name shown as “Deleted user” after deletion. They need it to know who owes whom.

Only add what you are happy for those people to see.

5. Accuracy

The app does the sums for you, but you are the one who enters the amounts, so please check them. We are not responsible for a disagreement between you and the people you split with. Keep your own record if the amounts matter to you (the app can export your data as a spreadsheet).

6. The service

Cute Split is free and is provided “as is”. We try to keep it running and your data safe, but we cannot promise it will never be interrupted or that nothing will ever be lost. We may change or stop parts of it, and will try to tell you first when that matters.

7. Our responsibility

To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for losses that come from using, or not being able to use, Cute Split, including money you thought was owed to you. Nothing here limits any right you have that cannot be limited by law.

8. Changes to these Terms

When we change the Terms in a way that matters, we change the version number above and the app asks you to continue under the new version the next time you use it. If you do not want to, you can delete your account instead.

9. Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India.
